pretty sally bakehouse, wallan

It is said that during the 1840's, Pretty Sally lived in Wallan. But as is the case with most bush legends, details about her life are sketchy. It’s been said she was fond of a drink. What most people seem to agree on though is her occupation: she was the proprietor of an illegal wine shanty. For all the speculation about her life, there’s no doubt Ms Smith’s renegade ways earned her quite a reputation. Big Hill, where her shanty is said to have stood, was soon rechristened, Pretty Sally Hill, and it’s been that way ever since.

Pretty Sally Bakehouse is a nod to Wallan’s first outlaw. Situated on the main road in Wallan, you can simply pass through for a little history, a takeaway coffee or a delicious bite to eat.

This mamma opted for the delicious bite to eat and she was not disappointed. Even the adults get a chocolate freckle with their coffee, this made Mamma SUPER happy. As for the little ones the menu will feed any fussy eater. With your simple ham and cheese toasted sandwich (made with regular soft bread - easy to eat), eggs and bacon or delicious waffles topped with vanilla ice cream. Yum! This place is great for the WHOLE family.

Mamma's special mention: The pram access is excellent, the facilities are fantastic, plenty of high chairs and the parking is also easy. Not to mention one of our favourite parks is Hadfield Water Reserve, its only over the road and worth the walk.  And if you've traveled for this one, don't forget to grab a pastry for the drive home.
