port of echuca discovery centre, echuca
/Wow! We have never seen a FREE museum and historical display that has so much to see and do and LEARN. The Port of Echuca Discovery Centre is fantastic. It has both indoor and outdoor displays, showing visitors what life was like in the 1870s, when Echuca was at its peak - being the 3rd largest outside of Melbourne and Sydney.
Its role as a key port along the Murray River has been encapsulated in this museum. The kids were given a treasure hunt to follow along the exhibits and they had a ball looking for clues, historical pieces of machinery and treasure. You get some stunning views over the River at the top of the boardwalks and you can spy some of the old paddle seamers from up above. There is even a shed full of kids activities and puzzles for when the learning part is a little too much.
Mamma's special mentions: For a little more paddle steamer adventures, either go for a ride on one, leaving from here, OR go for a play at the playground at Hopewood Gardens.
