secret world of food @ melbourne museum, carlton
/It’s back by popular demand! Mamma had so much fun at last year’s event and we are glad to see The Secret World of Food has returned!
Food doesn’t just come from the fridge! It goes on a whole amazing journey from the farms to our table and back again to work on nourishing the soil again! At the second ‘Secret World of Food’ activation at the Melbourne Museum you and the family will have the chance to use your imagination and creativity to pick ‘fresh’ food and explore the food cycle, including journeys from the farm, onto the truck, through the markets, into the kitchen and back in to the compost go the scraps.
Mamma discovered that kids learn where food comes from not just through books or videos, but through hands-on experiences in the garden or kitchen. And as a parent, teaching our kids about the process of food not only encourages healthy eating habits but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the food they eat.
Kids are curious creatures, so getting them involved in the planning, the preparing, the cooking - and most importantly - the clean up, is part of the fun and a big part of learning about life and the foods we love.
The activation opens Wednesday 16th October and runs for 5 DAYS ONLY till Sunday Oct 20th. You’ll find the ‘Secret World of Food’ on the Galleria Upper Level at Melbourne Museum from 11am to 3pm and entry is included with entry to the museum.
Developed by health promotion foundation VicHealth in partnership with Museums Victoria, the ‘Secret World of Food’ is designed to get young kids thinking about where food comes from and why we can’t take it for granted. There is much more to the story than getting food from the supermarket!
