Joe’s Market Garden is such a special spot and a bit of a hidden local treasure. This certified organic farm, growing organic crops like vegetables, flowers and herbs, has been farmed by CERES since 2003 but is named after the late Joe Garita whose father bought the land in 1945. Joe farmed the plot and raised seven children with his wife Jean as other urban market gardens and farms disappeared around them.
Usually our Saturday morning go to - you can visit the Farm Gate and purchase organic produce, freshly baked pastries, delicious coffee and even pick your own flowers (when in season). Little ones will love getting their hands dirty, meeting little bugs and insects and learning how fresh food is grown. Dogs are allowed on lead (but make sure they stay out of the garden beds).
There’s a lovely community vibe and lots of spacious seating. You could cruise along the Merri Creek Trail afterwards. A nice relaxed family morning!
