willsmere park, kew east
/When Mamma thinks about a billabong the first thought is some rural outback location, featuring a jolly swagman under a big tree. But did you know there is a billabong in Kew? This beautiful slice of bushland is amazing and a bit of a hidden oasis. The area is found at the junction of the Darebin Creek Trail and the Main Yarra Trail which buzz with cyclists and dog walkers.
The billabong itself, however, is nice and quiet with signage along the trails, teaching us all about the local flora and fauna of the area. As you wander closer to the Yarra the bush opens right up to beautiful grassy fields perfect for a family explore, a spot to climb a tree or simply sit and watch the world go by.
From here, you can head across the Yarra and watch the golfers tee off, or head back to the playground or the soccer field for some more outdoor fun.
Mamma's special mention: Mamma is a coffee-before-play kinda gal. If you are in the Kew East area, swing by Willsmere Station for a takeaway!
